Dr. Nate Blume was born in Huntingburg, Indiana and attended the University of Indiana where his studies included a concentration Nutrition and Exercise Science. As a student in Bloomington, Dr. Nate worked at the Student Recreational Sports Center (SRSC) as a Strength and Conditioning Consultant.  It was through this experience Dr. Nate realized his desire to help people get healthy.

“While working at the SRSC I found great enjoyment in educating individuals how to properly improve their health through exercise and diet.  I became more interested in the mechanics of the body and how it affected function on such an extremely individual basis.”

Dr. Nate’s increased interest in health and wellness led him to classes such as Personal Training, Group Exercise Leadership, and Human Nutrition.   While involved in these classes, it was a trip to Dr. Nate’s own Chiropractor that led him to take on a great undertaking.

“It was while visiting my Chiropractor, Dr. Phil Gilbert, that I realized Chiropractic was to be my profession. Upon asking me about my studies and interests, he  asked me if I had ever considered Chiropractic.  In the 45 minutes that followed Dr. Gilbert explained the principles and philosophy behind Chiropractic.  He talked about helping people naturally and allowing them to heal themselves without drugs or surgery.  I phoned for an application that day.”

Dr. Nate attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA.  Palmer is widely considered the Fountainhead of Chiropractic and is based on a strong philosophy of innate health.  Innate health meaning that health comes from within  and given the opportunity one’s body will strive to be healthy and feel good.

“I always knew I wanted to work with people to improve their quality of life.  Palmer and Chiropractic provided me with the best tool to do this.  The ability to educate and to adjust.”

Dr. Nate graduated in March of 2002 from Palmer and moved back to his home state of Indiana.  Wanting a cultural and spirited environment, he settled in Indianapolis and opened Lakeshore Chiropractic.    His brother Dr. Cole graduated from Palmer in 2005 and immediately joined the practice.

“We firmly believe that most people truly want to be healthy, but so many are basing their health decisions based on marketing they see on television or the newest fad diet. It became very obvious that if our practice members wanted a different outcome that we had to address the lifestyle that was creating that experience.”

Recognizing the need for a more formal way to address lifestyle modifications Dr. Nate and Dr. Cole implemented the Creating Wellness program into their office in 2008. Always reaching for the top, they partnered with some of the best wellness based offices in North America and help practice members achieve healthier lifestyles in the three dimensions of life – physical, biochemical and psychological.  Creating Wellness incorporates fitness and exercise, weight management and nutrition, and the mind-body connection in making healthier lifestyle choices and fighting off stress.

Outside of the office Dr. Nate, his wife Jodi and son Trent, born April 2009, lead the same healthy lifestyle he encourages his practice members to lead. Always looking for new recipes and quality sources of organic vegetables, fruits and meats, Dr. Nate loves to prepare fun and nutritious meals for his family and shares them with his practice. Dr. Nate is an avid runner and enjoys challenging his body to express it vitality through exercise and sport.

“I’m on a mission to create a healthier community in which to raise my family. We have too many kids that know which prescription Mom and Dad take when they can’t sleep or feel sad. I want Trent to recognize that great results take effort whether it is in school, a career, or health.”
